The Röhrig Tarot - A Game of Inspiration
Thank you very much for choosing the Röhrig Tarot. The Tarot cards shown in this App, as well as the completely new interpretations of each card, are to be understood as a game of inspiration. Therefore, we are pleased to offer a completely redesigned Tarot, a journey through 78 paintings and their meanings. These works were created by the most important representative of the Fantastic Naturalism of our time, the painter Carl W. Röhrig.
Carl W. Röhrig was born in Munich, Germany in 1953 and currently resides in Switzerland. He started his first artistic impressions at the ago of 3. He is internationally known for his Fantastic Naturalism and has to date created nearly 4,000 paintings, found among art lovers and collectors all over the world since 1975. His awesome detailed paintings inspire artists and art-lovers across the world. His many national and international awards serve to acknowledge his outstanding contributions to the world of art. He has worked for the National Geographic Society in Washington D.C. and has been awarded their prestigious lifetime membership.
In the early nineties, he ventured to create 78 completely new Tarot paintings. The Tarot [taro] spoken, is played in various forms, old-handed card game and very popular. Some say it originated in ancient Egypt or India. It came about the 15th century to Europe.
Carl W. Röhrig: "The 78 Tarot cards also contain 78 interesting topics that virtually challenge an artist artistically and intellectually. It is not without reason that top artists such as Dürer, Dali, Nicky de St. Phalle and many others artistically realized this thematic cycle. "
The artist worked 16 months continuously on the 78 paintings, quasi 9 days a week and 26 hours a day, figuratively speaking. A mammoth work!
Now that there are numerous books and websites on the Tarot and millions deal with it every day, we have decided not to recommend a special laying system of the Röhrig -Tarot. In fact, there are a variety of laying systems, how to lay the cards yourself or with others. We offer it as an artistically designed game of inspiration.
What interested the well-known artist to "remix" the Tarot cards?
Carl W. Röhrig: "I was more interested in the spiritual, the philosophical side of the Tarot cards. All messages that deal with the spiritual nature of man, I find very interesting and they can not be stressed enough. First of all, I must point out that Tarots message is superficial, that there are secrets of life to be explored. In my opinion, Tarot cards are no different, except that the spiritual, the psychic, is the greatest power one can think of. In this sense, we have each of the 78 cards assigned their own identity.”
